Now what?
Well you have your coupons (a constant work in progress) AND you signed up for all those sites your next step is space. I would find a spot that can hold your stockpile as it comes in. Remember in the beginning the stockpile will be small enough to fit anywhere. As you stock it, it will grow! Do you have a basement, closet or corner that you can use to house your stuff in a neat and orderly manner so you can find it as you need it? Do you have shelves or do you need them? Thinking of these things now will give you peace of mind later.
I personally have a pantry area where my food is stored. I have an overfilled spice cabinet, lol. I also have a personal item pantry like area where our other stuff goes.
You can also start gathering your information. Get prices and sales prices. Learn the sales cycles. If Hellmans Mayo goes on sale every four months, I know to get 4 months worth. Keep on gathering your coupons too. Write a company every day and tell them what you think. Sign up for coupons online.
Finally, start looking for your deals. If the ketchup you use is on sale for $.50 and you have coupons stock up. If you can turn buying your favorite shampoo in to a money maker or really cheap buy, stock up. Sales wise, things seem a little slow to me but it should really pick up after the holidays. Save up for those after Christmas sales and you can score really cheap birthday, Easter or just because presents (your gift stockpile).

How can you do it all
This is the question that I get most. My answer is simple I don't. You will find yourself going crazy and broke trying to get every deal and steal. A common step for someone just starting to learn how to be a smarter shopper is the notebook. The notebook is a place where you make a list of the commonly consumed products for your household. Here you can keep track of the cost of the items both regularly priced as well as sale prices. Remember being informed lets you know what is a true deal and what is smoke and mirrors.
When faced with a good deal that is not in my book I ask myself several questions:
1. Is this a new product that my family will use?
2. Can someone I know use this?
3. Can I donate it to food banks, shelters or the military?
If I can answer yes to just one of those questions I will go ahead and get it. I am not that person who is trying to buy a hundred of anything even if we do use it. Shopping for deals can be addictive and fun but remember you are trying to save money not find more things to spend it on. I have seen many folks buying things that will just sit and collect dust because they have no use for it. Notice number 3, with this economy and so many people struggling it is great to donate items. Call around locally and find out who takes what, or who can use what. Think about your kids teachers, with school budgets slashed, the teachers are coming out of pocket for basic supplies. Our troops fighting for our freedom, many places (in Hickory Hills Stagg HS and the Village Hall has both done collections) are actively seeking items and will give you a list if you request it.
I find it is just good karma to share the wealth if you will. My step mom taught me in Thai Culture when someone is lucky (like winning money, or scoring great deals etc), you need to spread the luck around or else you may lose it. Back when I got serious about saving this was my life. I would be broke (like down to nothing) 3/4 through the month. I was frequently skipping 2-3 meals a day to ensure my growing son would have enough to last. It was no way to live. Now I have plenty of everything and then some. If I stopped shopping now, we would have enough food to last at least 2 months and personal care products for a year (except TP and PT I got 3 months worth cause there are always sales). I have been able to donate and give to family and friends AND I spend way less money. Since I have, let me tell you the blessings keep coming. Dont get me wrong, there are things I need like a Pulmonologist that will take my insurance, etc. However, over all I know that I have been so blessed with lots of good things coming my way.

OMG Best New Bzz Yet
So when I got my Dymo Label writer I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now that I have played with it, I cant imagine life without it. But now BzzAgent has outdone itself. I used one of my early invites to get into a new campaign where they are going to send me the HTC Windows 7 Phones HD7. I am excited and curious at the same time. I was an early adopter of Droid (G1 cyanogen mod) and I love them so I am curious as to how the Windows phone will compare. I am excited about it being able to run netflix

More of the sites you should know
So we discussed mypoints, swagbucks and opinion outpost. All are sites which allow me to earn points that can be redeemed for gift certificates (or in the case of opinion outpost CA$H). Now let us talk about some sites that can get you freebies and coupons.
You often hear me talk about Bzzagent. This is one of my absolute favorites. They gave me my favoritist toy ever the Dymo label maker. Well all you do is sign up. From time to time you will complete shot surveys so they can match opportunities to your needs/interest. You also earn mypoints for the surveys and bzzing about products. When there is an opportunity you have the chance to read a little about the projects so you can decide if you want to participate. Once you have a campaign you try your product out and tell people about it. Sometimes they will give you samples and coupons that you can hand out as well. When you first sign up you wont be offered a ton of opportunities, but you will get more in time. I have felt very lucky that I have really enjoyed all the opportunities I have been given with bzzagent. So check them out.
Next up is House Party. This would be great for you guys (Shannon & Cassie). You sign up to hold a type of party. It could be a wii game, food, baby toys or even liquor. If you get accepted you invite friends and family over to enjoy the goodies that they send. Finally you do a post party interview/survey. Your guests may also take the after party surveys. House party's website allows you to send the e vites right from there and you can post pics and interact with other party hosts. It took me a few applications before I finally got a house party and when I did it was a great one. I got the Your Shape for the Wii (the one with the camera when it first came out), Just Dance for the Wii (again when it first came out), Coupons for 6 6pks of the Jello Mousse, and a bunch of moose and your shape coupons to hand out.
Kraft First Taste - While lately I haven't seen much from this site, I am not really an active member. They have surveys you can do. Occasionally they also offer free product coupons for you to try some of their new/ish products. I check in once every few weeks to see if there is anything available.
Do you have kids? Then the Disney Movie Rewards program is for you. You get points for surveys, buying Disney titles and seeing Disney movies. You can then redeem those points for a wide variety of products. I know when my son was little, I had all the Disney movies, I wish I would have had/known about this then.

Here are the programs you should know about! Part 1
When people first get into couponing and making money online they listen to the sites I use and they think that it is too much work. While it can sound overwhelming, remember I didn't sign up for everything in 1 day. I have belonged to some sites for more years than I can admit and others I am new to. Because it has been requested here is what I do: ***Just assume everything is a referral link, some are not but assume it is. A referral link allows me to get a credit of some sort for other people joining under me. Trust me when I say I wont just recommend any program. Now first get yourself a email specifically for these programs so you are not spammed to death. You will have to check this email still to take advantage of the opportunities but you do not want to use your personal email.
One of the first programs that I signed up for many years ago was Mypoints If ya want me to refer you to this one you can email me at chirish1025 (at) gmail (dot) com, or you can sign up on your own. This program allows you to earn points for doing things like shopping, reading an email and doing surveys. If you refer people you can earn a percentage of your referrals points. I have 1 referral who is not very active. I do the emails (you just click and let the page load for 5 points, sometimes you can get additional points for signing up for a newsletter). I have made about $150 in gift cards from this site in 2010. It is very easy and I spend about 5-10 minutes a day on it.
Another source of giftcards and cash is Opinion Outpost. I have only done this in 2010 and so far I have made $209.80. They give me the option of receiving a check or Amazon gift code. I get a decent amount of surveys and I don't do this as much as I should. I spend MAYBE 30 minutes a day on this task. You need a minimum of $5 to cash out (easy to get).

I have mixed feelings about swagbucks. You can earn gift cards pretty easily. I get $10 in Amazon gift cards monthly. I do not do the special offers as many have viruses and I do not trust shopping through this site. I do use their search engine a couple times a day, I have the tool bar which gets me 1 SB every day, NOSO no obligation special offers (you keep skipping through till you get 1SB), I click on trusted surveys for 1 SB but I do not do the surveys (rip off) and I answer the daily polls for 1 SB. I spend about 5 minutes on this site a day. Even thought $10 a month in Amazon cash sound like a small amount it comes out to be about $120 a year.
So there is three sites. Pledge to sign up to one a day or every other day and begin to incorporate it into your online things to do. Since we are having "The Big Family Christmas" tomorrow I will probably post part 2 Sun.

It is so nice to hear
So I am a pretty strict mom. It is kind of ironic because I was the stereotypical bad child, but we always want better for our kids. As I was talking to the mother of one of my icky teens friends today, she was going on and on about what a good, well mannered and helpful person my baby was. It is nice to see that I have been doing something right all this time, lol. I know I am lucky my icky teen could be soooo much worse. Welch's Healthy Start BZZZ
So BzzAgent has been keeping me busy as a bee! I have had so many new campaigns recently. BzzAgent is a company that sends out a product or gives you a service to try. Once you have played with/tried the item/service, you then tell people about it. I am always honest, if I don't like a product I will say so. Luckily I have had so many products/services that I liked. If you haven't signed up yet then you need too. You do not need a blog in order to be a BzzAgent. Now on the the BZZ!
Another one of my favorite campaigns from BzzAgent. Like many other parents, I sometimes struggle trying to get my 14 yo icky teen to drink things that are good for him. Junk is everywhere, and my child can be very picky (this is the kid that don't like tomato's but can't live without ketchup). So when I brought this juice into the house I was prepared for the battle ahead. My strategy was simple, bribe him with Xbox 360 time. Tom's of Maine Wicked Fresh Bzz & Free Sample for you too!!!
So BzzAgent has been keeping me busy as a bee! I have had so many new campaigns recently. BzzAgent is a company that sends out a product or gives you a service to try. Once you have played with/tried the item/service, you then tell people about it. I am always honest, if I don't like a product I will say so. Luckily I have had so many products/services that I liked. If you haven't signed up yet then you need too. You do not need a blog in order to be a BzzAgent. Now on the the BZZ!
Another BzzAgent Campaign I have gotten was Tom's of Maine Wicked Fresh toothpaste. I had always heard of the brand Tom's of Maine and knew that they were one of those "natural" type companies, but until recently I had just never tried it out. Well I eagerly accepted the campaign and I am glad I did. They sent me several little sample size toothpaste AND a full size one of the Cool Peppermint flavor. I passed out the samples and my son and I started using the Tom's. Both of us thought the taste was pretty good, not at all overpowering like you get with some toothpastes. It leaves your teeth feeling clean and your breath smelling fresh.
As someone who is paying attention to what ingredients are in the products I use I was pleased to know that there are no artificial sweetners, preservatives, colors, flavors or animal ingredients. Also this product is not tested on animals. Now the whole no animal ingredients thing made me google animal ingredients in toothpaste and lets just say ewwww! That is somethings that you need to be looking at, I had no clue!

Homemade cranberry sauce
I got this recipe from my Aunt Traci and it is soooooo good I thought I would share it. This was also my first experience with homemade cranberry sauce and I am now a convert.
2 Cups Cranberries
Juice and Chopped Zest from 1 orange
1 Apple chopped small
1/4 Port (Optional)
1/2 c sugar, or more if needed
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
In a small saucepan combine cranberries, apples, OJ and zest, port, sugar and cinnamon to a boil. Reduce heat to simmering and cook until cranberries are tender, stirring occasionally. In a small cup make a slurry with cornstarch and 1 Tbsp of Water, Whisk cornstarch mixture into cranberries sauce and cook whisking until sauce thickens. Taste and add more sugar if necessary.
This is now a staple recipe in my house. I will also play with it by using half white and half brown sugar. Replacing Port with Gran Mariner. Adding pears and dried fruit. The possibilities are endless. Do you have a cranberry sauce recipes? I would love to hear about it.

Getting the best deals
Being able to get a good deal should be easy right? The retailer puts an item on sale and advertises it in its weekly circulars. The consumers are like "wow a sale"! Sometimes it's just not that easy. Retailers sometimes markup a sales item, only to mark it down to a sale price that is no different than normal. This is why it is important to know your prices. Here are some simple ways to spot a true deal.
B1G1 - Buy one get one free sales can be great deals, but you have to watch. This is one of the biggest areas that I have noticed that retailers mark up to mark down. This is when you want to know your prices. A B1G1 is you are paying X for the two items. So divide the cost by the number of products and compare to regular price! There are some factors that will help the deal swing in your favor. With a B1G1 sale you can also use 2 manufacturer coupons and 2 store coupons (if your store allows that), to help bring the price down.
Loss Leaders - Every week stores have an item or items that they mark down so much it results in a loss for the store financially. Before you go feeling sorry for them, they do this in hopes that you will also pick up other more profitable things while you are there. Hitting the stores in your area for the loss leader items (that you will use) is a must in bargain shopping. To help fight temptation I go into a store with my list and coupons for the trip ready to go. I know what I am going to get and approximately how much it will cost. Even more important I stick to that list. ***NEVER SHOP HUNGRY***, you will want to buy all kinds of things that you did not budget for.
Shop Around - The biggest way people waste (IMO) money is because they want to get everything in one spot. Is it convenient, sure but how much are you spending on that convenience. I know people who grocery shop at Walmart. Why because they can get their oil changed and tires rotated while buying groceries and kids clothes all under one roof. This person assumes that Walmart has the lower prices, well because they are walmart. That is their claim to fame. It's just not true all the time. I don't shop at walmart, but the last few times I was there their prices were on par with all the other local retailers on many of their items. So being willing to shop around will save you a ton by assuring you that you will always get a good price.
Clearance is your friend, plan in advance. If I am shopping a clearance rack I usually buy things a couple sizes too big for my son (14 and GROWING) just to ensure the things will fit a year later when they are in season again. This is a bit of a craps game, because we really can't say how much someone will grow in a year (unless your old like me and stopped a long time ago). However, you know your kids and how they have been growing so to me it is worth the gamble.
Be willing to shop online. When ever I am about to make a purchase on line, I will do a search to see if there are any online coupon codes that I can use. I also go through mypoints, ebates or shop at home to get even more bang for my buck in the form of cash back or points towards giftcards (whichever I deem the better deal). In shopping online, shipping is the purple elephant in the room. Sometimes stores will offer free shipping any order (rare) or free shipping when you spend x. Other stores like Amazon have programs you can join (or get free trials) and get free two day shipping. Type in Amazon mom at the homepage of Amazon and sign up, its free.
Don't wait - When a deal is HOT, it is safe to assume it will not last. Getting in and getting the deal sooner rather then later will go along way to ensuring that you are able to get in on it. If you do arrive too late, you should always remember to get a raincheck (I never remember, lol but I need to start). Rainchecks will allow you to get the sale price on an item at a later date when there is some stock.

They offer a number of catalina deals throughout the year, Some are you have to buy $XX amount in certain products and you will receive a coupon for $x off your next order. Other times you have to buy a certain number of an item to receive the $X off your next order coupon.
Coupons. No matter if you get them online, from Sunday inserts or from writing the manufacturer, using these little papers will save you a ton in the end. These are like cash and will bring your out of pocket cost down quick. Also here we can use Register Rewards or Jingle Cash at Jewel to help bring down our out of pocket costs, they are considered manufacturer coupons.

Building your stash of "Q"s
There is a common misconception that in order to really "coupon", one has to eat nothing but junk. While I can't deny a lot of coupons are, but there are many coupons for organics and gluten free. I have noticed an increase seeing some in the Sunday inserts. The key is to seek out the coupons you want. I am on several organic sites mailing lists and they send me coupons periodically. A lot of websites have printables as well. My favorite organic blogger can be found here.
One of the key ways I save money aside from shopping sales is by using coupons.
1. Chicago Tribune Sunday paper. In my area this is the paper that has the most and best coupons. If you are in another area, get the big market paper in your area. Look at diners and coffee shops for folks throwing away inserts. Have family pass you theirs. Find a way to organize your coupons so you can find them when you need them. I use the envelope/category system. Others use binders or index card boxes, its all about what works for you.
2. Make a list of must haves, and frequently purchased items. Like for me I cant live without Pantene Conditioner or Cottonelle TP. Other brands just don't do it for me. Go to their websites, see if they offer coupons, or mailing lists. Write to them (or email) telling why you like/hate their product. Be honest in your feedback, you would be surprised at what they send. This is how I had so many free coupons on double stamp day.
3. Facebook is a treasure trove of coupons if you know where to look. I would have a separate account (separate email too) to take care of coupons and help avoid spam.
4. Discover the bloggers. There are so many wonderful sites and blogs that I use to aid me on my savings adventure. Hip2Save , ChiTown Cheapskate , Couponing to Disney and Couponers Wanted . These are my main sites that I check several times a day. They will alert you to new coupons, sales and freebies.
5. Grocery stores frequently have seasonal coupon books or tear pads with coupons. When I see them and know I will use the coupon I may take 2 to help with future deals. Do you drink? Alot of liquor manufacturers offer coupons off other items when you buy that liquor/beer/wine. Sometimes when the sample people are out, they will also have coupons.
6. Learn the brands. A surprisingly few companies own most of the products we use daily. There was recently a coupon in a Sunday insert for $2 off ANY Clairol family product. There was a picture of hair dye. Herbal Essences is a Clairol Family product and was at cvs recently on sale free after extra care bucks. This made money maker herbal essence. Learning the brands also allow you to take full advantage of a sale.
7. This is not really a coupon but close enough for me to add it. lol. REBATES!!! I used to be one of those people who hate rebates but I have grown to love them. They always seem to show up right when you need them. Now I wouldn't buy something I wouldn't use just because it has a rebate. But if it is something that is a staple in my house then DUH! Why wouldn't I? On black Friday I purchased the products to do the Olay/P&G rebate, buy $50 get $20 back found here . Walgreens had everything free after register rewards, and you know I had coupons on top of it so on some purchases I made money. Now the things I bought I will use, and I brought some to my Grams and also donated to the troops. These same purchases are what is allowing me to survive well of $20 and I have shopped a lot :oD. Now in a couple months I will receive a check for $20,
8. Another not a coupon, and already mentioned above, but I rely heavily on this site for the sneak peaks at the upcoming ads. Couponers Wanted ! The ad previews and having so many eyes and ears on coupon matchups , prices and deals, the site is incredible. The ad previews allow me to know in advance what products are going to be a deal so I can work on getting coupons to help with the purchase.

Alot of liquor manufacturers offer coupons off other items when you buy that liquor/beer/wine. Sometimes when the sample people are out, they will also have coupons.
6. Learn the brands. A surprisingly few companies own most of the products we use daily. There was recently a coupon in a Sunday insert for $2 off ANY Clairol family product. There was a picture of hair dye. Herbal Essences is a Clairol Family product and was at cvs recently on sale free after extra care bucks. This made money maker herbal essence. Learning the brands also allow you to take full advantage of a sale.
7. This is not really a coupon but close enough for me to add it. lol. REBATES!!! I used to be one of those people who hate rebates but I have grown to love them. They always seem to show up right when you need them. Now I wouldn't buy something I wouldn't use just because it has a rebate. But if it is something that is a staple in my house then DUH! Why wouldn't I? On black Friday I purchased the products to do the Olay/P&G rebate, buy $50 get $20 back found here . Walgreens had everything free after register rewards, and you know I had coupons on top of it so on some purchases I made money. Now the things I bought I will use, and I brought some to my Grams and also donated to the troops. These same purchases are what is allowing me to survive well of $20 and I have shopped a lot :oD. Now in a couple months I will receive a check for $20,
8. Another not a coupon, and already mentioned above, but I rely heavily on this site for the sneak peaks at the upcoming ads. Couponers Wanted ! The ad previews and having so many eyes and ears on coupon matchups , prices and deals, the site is incredible. The ad previews allow me to know in advance what products are going to be a deal so I can work on getting coupons to help with the purchase.

Starting your Stockpile
There are things that no matter who we are, we need. Toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and razors. These are some of the basics that we use on a daily basis. These are also items that will not go bad and can be found cheap or even free.
If you read the ads on Sundays you will notice many drugstores offer incentives for you to purchase certain items there.
Walgreens will offer Register Rewards (or Jingle Cash). These can be used at Jewel or Walgreens and are considered a manufacturer coupon. A typical deal may be, buy Colgate Total for $2.99 and get $3.00 register reward. This deal can be sweetened by coupons, because you can use both a manufacturer and a store coupon. I recently had a $1/1 manufacturer coupon and a $1/1 store coupon for the Colgate. I paid $.99 and got back $3 register reward so I made money on the deal. For Walgreens you need to remember to have an item for each coupon you want to use. So in the above example I needed to add another item to be able to use both coupons. I will generally pick up something cheap like one of something priced 5/$1. You also cannot have two Colgate totals in your order and expect 2 register rewards. If you want to buy multiples of an item, do separate transactions. Finally, I would not pay for my next Colgate total with the register reward from the first one, I wouldn't get the new register reward most of the time.
CVS has Extra Care Bucks, these are like CVS cash. A typical deal may be buy 1 Herbal essence conditioner at $3.99 get $3.99 ECB. CVS will sometimes have limits that allow you to get multiples of an item in one order and still receive the ECB. You can also use the ECB from the Herbal Essence to pay for the new one and still get the new ECB.

Use these sales to stock up on these every day essentials. The purpose is to buy low. I tend to use most of my Register Rewards at Jewel, though I will occasionally use them at Walgreens for things that rarely go on sale (like Mentholatum). Sometimes, when I am well stocked (like I am now) I will also get some wants that I would not normally buy.
Stockpiles of food work a very similar way. Shop the sales, stock up on loss leaders (items on extreme discount to draw you in the store). Go to multiple stores, and use both store and manufacturer coupons. Jewel and Dominicks (Safeway to you east coasters) do Catalina deals. These are deals that require you to buy a certain dollar amount or number of participating products and then will give you a coupon (catalina) off your next order. (Example buy $30 of PG products get $10 OYNO, this is not active sale just an example).
In the beginning you will spend a little more while you are building your stockpile, but before you know it you will be saving big time. I have shaved 50-75% off what I used to spend and I am buying the same things I did before.
***Disclaimer*** There is a fine line between having a stockpile and being a hoarder. Be mindful of what you have. Don't feel like you have to hit every sale. Finally, donate extras! You will find family, friends, food banks and charitable organizations are happy to get all the extras that you want to get rid of.
